Dogs do have Bad Breath, too

Humans are naturally animal lovers and one of our so-called man’s best friends is a dog. We are so in love with them while they are still puppies and once the certain bond or closeness is established, dogs are something or someone we can never live without – like a best friend. Though they do not speak our language but with the touch we give them and how we treat them make them feel our emotions and how much we love and value them. That is why they reciprocate that love and attention by the protection we get from them especially if we are in trouble. Somehow dogs feel for us and the bonding or the relationship that we have built with them is something that lasts for them.

Like humans, dogs also have some habits similar to us. We play with them, we give them toys, we feed them the right amount so that it will not give them a tummy ache and there are certain kinds of foods that we avoid to give them just like humans as it may cause them tummy trouble. And they have bad breath.

Dogs’ bad breath or halitosis is caused by the food that they take, the condition of their stomachs and their teeth. Just like humans, dogs’ teeth also get decay. Make sure that the foods they take are broken down into small meals and that what they eat is half hard mixed with soft food. It will help them with their bad breath. You should also properly observe the time or the dog’s eating schedule to avoid digestive problems and vomit acid. Make sure that you also give them lots of water to help in the digestion of their food.

Just like humans, there are different causes of dogs bad breath. They might have gingivitis, periodontitis or a buildup of tartar. Improper digestion can also be one of the causes of dogs’ bad breath as it is not the mouth of the dog which smells awful but the food that they have digested. For such instances, it would be best to consult your veterinarian as to the cure that can be given to your dogs’ bad breath.

Just like us, dogs need to brush their teeth as well so that tartar buildup will be avoided. They also have their own toothpastes, toothbrushes, mints and mouthwash. This process however should also be done on a regular basis so that they will have healthy gums and teeth and reduce the risk of having a bad breath. Their breath may not smell that good but at least it would be something that will be okay with you and other people to be given a sloppy kiss by them.
